Stefan Göllner

I joined Design Research Lab from Sept. 2009 to Sept. 2013. During my time at the Lab I investigated the changing role of technology design against the backdrop of an aging society. This required a rethinking of existing concepts like inclusive design or universal design as well as deeper investigations into the role of users as participants and actors in a design process. My initial interests was, how the design of technical artifacts enable and evoke new forms of social relations and how this influences the process of ageing. I was seeking for adequate theoretical approaches to reflect on and further develop the practice of »doing design« as an activity actively influencing this process.

Related Projects: In BMBF founded project »SmartSenior« (2009–2012) I developed cross-platform design patterns and a user typology. In project Networked-Neighbourhood (2010–2011) we developed and investigated new design approaches to support co-habitation and sustainable lifestyles in urban communities. In project »T-Hub User Experience« (2012–2013) we where seeking for alternative approaches to design Smart Home user scenarios and interfaces by investigating everyday routines and requirements of possible user groups. Besides leading these projects, I organised and conducted various workshops, contributed to the DRL colloquium and participated in short term projects, talks etc.

Vita: studies in Landscape Planning at TU Berlin (1997-1999), Communications-Design at University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf (Dipl. Des-FH 2006), research associate at Academy of Media Arts Cologne in EU-Project Citizen-Media (2007-2009). In 2015 Stefan Göllner became founder and managing director of place/making (www.place-making.org) and associate of InitialDesign Berlin (www.initialdesign.de) in 2017.
