On Ambiguity in Design: Inherent Paradoxes and Intentional Uncertainty

In this weeks colloquium we will take a look at the relevance of Ambiguity for design and design research. Taking a brief starting point in Simone de Beauvoir’s thoughts in her piece ‘The Ethics of Ambiguity’ from 1947, we will discuss the potentials and benefits of the concept

for design research, drawing on the example of the article ‘Ambiguity as a Resource for Design’ by Gaver, Beaver and Benford from 2003.
